when it’s a holiday weekend. Really T… Really G. and really F.

38 million Americans are gonna hit the road this holiday weekend
and you can see these are the highways all across the USA.
The average family travels 1,000 miles on summer road trips. And this morning,
we’re calculating just how much more
it’s gonna cost your family with those record high gas prices affecting everything along the way as well.

We begin with breaking news. Word that North Korea has fired missile toward the Sea of Japan.
Let’s get straight to Jonathan Carl at the Pentagon.
Jonathan tell us. What do we know?
Well, Chris, these were short range missiles that were test fired
from both coasts of North Korea into the Sea of Japan.

Pentagon officials tell me they were tracking these preparations for these tests all day yesterday.
So the actual tests were not a surprise today.
But the key thing is again these were short range missiles. This is not a repeat of what they did last summer
when they fired a long range missile capable of hitting the United States.
And Chris, it’s certainly not a repeat of that nuclear test.

So the obvious, but important question is how big a concern is this?
Well, it’s whatdiplomats might call unhelpful.
This comes, you know, when they’re trying to deal… come up with a deal on the nuclear program.
They have been making a lot of progress on that.
But it is not a major problem here because North Korea has a right to test these missiles. They are short range.
And in fact, Chris, this is the kind of thing that they do somewhat regularly.

이번 연휴 동안 3800만 명의 시민들이 여행을 떠날 것으로 보입니다. 지금 보고 계신 화면은 미국 전역의 고속도로 모습입니다. 이번 연휴 동안 가족단위 여행객들은 평균적으로 1천 마일을 이동할 것으로 예상됩니다. 기록적인 고유가가 여행과 관련된 모든 것에 영향을 미치고 있는 요즘, 여행비용이 얼마나 더 들게 될지 한 번 계산해 보겠습니다.

현재 일어나고 있는 소식부터 보도해 드리도록 하겠습니다. 북한이 동해상에 미사일을 발사했다는 소식이 들어왔습니다. 국방부에 나가 있는 조나단 칼 기자를 연결해 보도록 하겠습니다. 조나단 기자, 현재까지 어떤 사실이 알려져 있습니까? 북한은 동해와 서해상에서 단거리 미사일을 시험발사했습니다.

국방부 관계자들은 어제 하루 동안 이번 시험발사의 준비작업을 관찰했기 때문에 시험발사는 그리 놀라운 것이 아니었다고 말했습니다. 중요한 것은 이번에 발사된 미사일이 단거리용이며, 작년 여름에 발사되었던 것과 같이 미국까지 사정권 안에 두는 미사일이 아니라는 점입니다.

너무 당연한 것처럼 들리지만 또한 한편으로는 매우 중요한 질문이 있습니다. 이번 사태가 얼마나 심각한 우려를 불러일으키고 있습니까? 외교관들은 북한의 이번 움직임이 결코 도움이 되지 않을 것이라고 보고 있습니다. 현재 북한은 핵개발 프로그램과 관련해 일종의 거래를 해야 하고, 이제까지 많은 진전을 보인 상태입니다. 하지만 한편으로는 북한이 미사일을 시험발사할 권리가 있고 발사된 미사일이 단거리 미사일이기 때문에 큰 문제가 되지는 않을 것으로 보입니다. 사실 이번 시험발사는 북한에게 있어 다소 정기적인 훈련의 일부입니다. 소식 감사합니다.

- 5월 25일부터 연휴가 시작되고 있기 때문에 금요일이 더 큰 의미를 갖게 될 것이다. 뒷문장의 "Really T, really G and really F"는 각각 TGIF(Thank, God. It's Friday)의 thank, God, Friday를 강조한 것으로 연휴가 된 것이 정말 기쁘다는 의미로 이해하면 된다.
