Lesson 57 - Secondhand Smoke Kathy: Can’t I have a decent meal without someone blowing smoke in my face? Matt: Is the smoke really bothering you? We could move to another table. Kathy: It’s too much hassle. But isn’t it time that smoking is banned in all food establishments? Matt: I remember when non-smoking sections didn’t even exist. So we have come a long way if you think about that. Kathy: If you ask me, I don’t know why they bother with non-smoking sections. Matt: What do you mean? Aren’t you grateful that they even have them? Kathy: All the smoke in the smoking areas eventually seeps into the non-smoking areas anyways. Matt: You can’t have your cake and eat it, too. Things will improve in time. Kathy: I’ll probably die from secondhand smoke before I see any drastic changes. Matt: Don’t be so dramatic. Let’s dig in. I’m starving. < Key expressions > ■ But isn’t it time that smoking is banned in all food establishments? ■ So we have come a long way if you think about that. ■ You can’t have your cake and eat it, too. ■ I’ll probably die from secondhand smoke before I see any drastic changes. < Main dialogue > ■ Can’t I have a decent meal without someone blowing smoke in my face? * decent meal : 품위 있는 일반적인 식사 * brow smoke : 담배 연기를 내뿜다 ■ Is the smoke really bothering you?
