Lesson 32 Something to Help Me Wind Down John: Over here, Kathy! Kathy: Wow! This place is jam-packed! It looks like this is the place to be. John: I heard about the place through word of mouth. Everyone’s been raving about it. Kathy: You sure know how to keep up with the latest social scene. John: I wouldn’t have it any other way. I live for this stuff. Kathy: So what should I order? I need something to wind me down. John: You came just in time. You have a few minutes before the happy hour is over. Kathy: Then I should order two drinks. John: Absolutely. What are you in the mood for? Kathy: I’d love a cocktail, a Long Island Iced Tea. John: Coming right up. Excuse me, one Long Island Iced Tea, please. (gets the drink) Kathy: Oh, that really hits the spot! It’s just what I needed. [해석] “뭔가 긴장을 풀만한 것” John: 여기야, Kathy! Kathy: 와! 꽉 찼네. 여기가 바로 ‘그 유명한 곳’ 이구나. Everyone’s been raving about it. * through word of mouth -> 신문, 텔레비전, 전단지, 라디오 등을 통해 보고 듣는 것이 아니라 사람들의 말을 통해 즉, 사람들의 입 소문을 통해 알게 되는 것. * raving about it = praising about it -> 긍정적으로 어떤 일이나 사람에 대해 열을 올려 이야기 하는 것. cf. be raving mad : (부정적으로) 아주 미치다 rave music : 레이브 음악 -> 춤을 추기 위한 전자 음악 ■ You sure know how to keep up with the latest social scene. * keep up with something : (시세의 추세 등에) 뒤지지 않다. * social scene : 사회적 흐름 ■ I live for this stuff. * live for something -> love it so much : ~ 때문에 살아, ~이 너무 좋아 ■ I need something to wind me down. * wind down -> relax / slow down 긴장이 풀리다, 약화 되다(되게 하다) <-> wind up ex. I often wind down by watching TV : 나는 종종 텔레비전을 보면서 긴장을 푼다. How do you wind down after work? : 근무 후에 어떻게 휴식을 취하나요? ■ You have a few minutes before the happy hour is over. * happy hour -> 주로 사람이 없는 시간대에 음료나 주류를 싸게 제공하는 시간 ■ What are you in the mood for? 뭘 마시고 싶어? = What kind of dink do you want? ■ That really hits the spot! * Something really hits the spot -> It’s perfect for that time. / It satisfies you perfectly. -> 어떤 상황에 정확히 맞아 떨어질 때.
