링컨의 두번째 취임연설에서

 

 

Second Inaugural Address Washington, D.C. March 4, 1865

 

Lincoln's second inaugural address closed with these words:

With malice toward none; with charity for all; with firmness in the right, as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in; to bind up the nation's wounds; to care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow and his orphan...to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations.

 

악으로 향하는 것은 아무것도 없습니다.

결국 자선으로 향합니다.

신이 우리에게 옳은 것을 보게 하듯이 옳은것의 확신으로

현실속에서 일을 마치기위해 노력할 수 있도록 합시다.

전투에서 태어난 아이들, 미망인들, 고아들을 돌봄으로  국가의 상처를 봉합합시다.

모든것을 달성하게 하고 정당함을 소중히하여 우리와 국가사이의 평화가 지속되게 하기 위해서  (번역 희숙)

 

링컨은 미국에서 가장 존경받는 대통령이다.

그가 존경받은 것은 원칙속에서 정당한 행함을 계속 실천하려고 노력했기 때문이다.

그는 이 연설을 마지막으로 암살당했다.
