Hi, everybody? All that ahead, but first a look at what’s news as we head into a new week
and Wall Street heads into the second half of 2007.
The Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged. Five and a quarter percent this past week,
saying that the risk of inflation is no longer elevated,
but it is still being watched and it is still a concern.

“It’s a little bit funny this feeling inside.”
70,000 fans filled London’s newly refurbished Wembley Stadium for star-studded concert
in honor of Princess Diana.
This would’ve been her 46th birthday.

“Ladies and gentlemen, they’re all highnesses, Prince William and Prince Harry.”
Diana’s two sons themselves planned the pop music event.
“Hello, Wembley!”
the princes thanked the fans while tens of millions watched worldwide.
“This evening is about all that our mother loved in life:
her music, her dance, her charities and her family and friends.”
Including her favorite band, Duran Duran.
“Never chose this way. Never close your eyes.”

Security for the event was beefed up
after the discovery of two unexploded car bombs in London on Friday,
and Saturday’s terrorist incident in Glasgow.
But the terror threat did not dampen the spirit of the fans or the performers.
“I mean it’s so special. She was such an amazing woman.
People’s princess. And such a great humanitarian.”
Tickets for the concert cost $90 each
with proceeds going to causes Diana supported,
including landmine removal and AIDS charity.

- 마지막의 concern은 '걱정, 근심' 등을 뜻하는 단어로, 의미상 worry와 비슷하지만 훨씬 formal한 느낌을 갖고 있다.

But the terror threat did not dampen the spirit of the fans or the performers.
- damp가 '습한, 축축한, 의기소침한'을 뜻하므로 뒤에 -en을 붙인 dampen은 '축축하게 하다, 기를 죽이다'가 된다. dampen은 위 문장에서와 같이 비유적으로 어떤 것을 약화시킨다고 할 때 주로 사용된다.
