Now, divers aren’t ready to call off the search for eight people who’ve been missing
since a bridge collapsed into a river
in the US state of Minnesota last Wednesday.
The FBI is sending a new diving team to join the search.
And as John Lawrence reports, the state’s governor says that there’s still hope.

Refusing to give up,
investigators and rescue teams continue this weekend
trying to find those still missing and looking for clues
as to what caused Wednesday’s tragedy in Minneapolis.

At least one parent joined the effort.
This man, seen standing atop the wreckage of the I-35W Bridge.
He swam in the Mississippi trying to find clues to the whereabouts of his daughter,
one of several still missing from the bridge collapse.
Minnesota’s governor asked the public Sunday, not to lose hope.
“We really don’t want to speculate
because we’ve had some instances where people who were thought to be missing have showed up
at…… is in comas and hospitals or in medical conditions.”

Meanwhile, authorities say don’t expect any quick answers on what caused the tragedy.
“It’s going to be a slow tedious investigation.
It’s going to be thorough
and it’s going to be comprehensive.”

More help is on its way to investigators and rescuers on scene.
The US northern command announced Sunday,
orders are being drafted up to send a naval ship and dive team to help in the effort.
The military says that assistance could be in Minnesota in a couple of days.

엑스포 2010. 중국 상하이에서 열립니다. 더욱 좋아진 도시, 그곳에는 더 좋은 삶이 있습니다. 지난 수요일 미국 미네소타에서 다리 붕괴사고가 발생한 이후로 실종상태에 있는 여덟 명에 대한 수색작업이 다이버들에 의해 계속 진행되고 있습니다. FBI 역시 다비빙팀을 보내 수색작업에 합류할 예정입니다. 미네소타 주지사는 아직도 희망이 있다고 말하고 있는데요, 자세한 소식 존 로렌스 기자가 보도합니다.

수사팀과 구조대원들은 주말 내내 포기하지 않고 지난 수요일 미니애폴리스에서 발생한 비극적인 사고로 실종된 사람들의 행방을 찾기 위해 노력하는 한편 사고 원인을 규명하기 위해 애썼습니다.

최소한 한 명의 실종자 부모가 수색작업에 동참했습니다. I-25W 다리의 잔해에 서있는 이 남성이 바로 그 사람인데요... 그는 미시시피강을 직접 헤엄치며 딸의 행방을 파악하는 데 도움이 될 만한 실마리를 찾기 위해 노력했습니다. 그의 딸은 다리 붕괴사고 이후 아직까지도 실종상태에 있는 몇 안되는 실종자 중의 한 명입니다. 일요일에 미네소타 주지사는 시민들에게 희망을 버리지 말라고 부탁했습니다. "실종된 것으로 생각되던 사람이 혼수상태에 있거나 병원에서 치료를 받고 있었던 예가 있기 때문에 현재로서는 어떠한 추측도 하지 않는 것이 좋다고 생각됩니다."

한편 당국은 다리 붕괴사고의 원인이 신속히 규명될 것으로 기대해서는 안 된다고 밝혔습니다. "매우 더디고 지리한 수사가 계속될 것입니다. 철저하고 광범위한 수사를 하도록 하겠습니다."

현장에 있는 수사팀과 구조대원들에 대한 지원은 조만간 이루어질 예정입니다. 미 북부사령부는 수색작업을 돕기 위해 해군 선박 한 척과 다이빙팀을 보내는 명령의 초안이 작성되었다고 일요일에 밝혔습니다. 군은 또한 며칠 후에 군의 지원병력이 미네소타에 도착할 것이라고 말했습니다. 아틀란타에서 존 로렌스입니다.

- as to는 about과 마찬가지로 '~에 대하여'를 뜻한다. 문법적으로 보았을 때 as to 뒤에는 간단한 명사가 와도 무방하지만, 그런 경우에는 about이 사용되는 경우가 많으며 as to 뒤에는 긴 명사구나 명사절이 오는 경우가 많다. 위 문장에서는 what caused ~ in Minneapolis가 as to에 연결되고 있다.

Meanwhile, authorities say don’t expect any quick answers on what caused the tragedy.
- a quick answer는 '빠른 대답', 즉 '곧바로 하는 답변'을 뜻한다. 위 문장의 say 이하부분은 "don't expect that we will be able to answer quickly as to what caused the tragedy" 라고 해도 되지만 여기서는 quick answers라는 명사구가 사용되어 표현 전체가 매우 간결해졌다.
