The Tyger

Tyger! Tyger! burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?


In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder, &what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand? &what dread feet?

What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? what dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clsap?

When the stars threw down their spears
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did he smile his work to see?
Did he who made the Lamb make thee?

Tyger! Tyger! burning bright

호랑아 호랑아 불타오르는
한 밤 숲 속에서 불타오르는
불사의 손, 눈이
네 끔찍한 균형을 구상했구나

어떠한 심연의 깊이와 광활함으로
그대 타오르는 눈동자를 불태우는가
새의 날개를 동경할 것인가?
어떠한 손이 그 불꽃을 잡겠는가?

어떠한 어깨와 기술로
그대 심장의 근육을 뒤틀 수 있었는가?
언제부터 그대의 심장 박동이 시작되었으며
오! 그 끔찍한 손, 그 끔찍한 다리를 만들었는가?

어떠한 망치와 쇠사슬이
어떠한 용광로로 그대의 머리를
어떠한 모루와 그 끔직한 손길이
그 잔인한 두려움을 붙들어 둘 수 있었는가?

별들이 그들의 창을 던져버리고
회개의 눈물로 하늘을 물들였을 때
신이 그의 작품을 보고 웃음 지었는가?
양을 만든 그 손길이 그대를 만들었는가?
