And finally from us tonight, we’re going to meet the big…the people at the very center of the tennis world, people who are largely invisible. We’re talking about ball boys and ball girls. For two weeks, these kids have been scrambling on the courts at the US Open. It’s tough work. ABC’s Ryan Owens went for a tryout.

While all eyes dart between the two players, there are six athletes on every court here you’re not supposed to notice. Kirsten Ogden has spent 15 years doing her best to be invisible at the US Open. The 29-year-old takes two weeks of vacation every summer to crouch by the net. "I’m the speedy one and the agile one, and I’m…I’m supposed to disappear. As soon as the ball hits the net, I zoom out and then I disappear." "There you go."

It’s not as easy as it looks, as Kramer found out on Seinfeld. He aced his tryout, only to mow down a player during his first match. The occasional fall, or fumble, do happen and turn all eyes where they’re not supposed to be.

Spending a couple of weeks on a hot court like this, catching balls and, well, the occasional sweaty towel, may not sound glamorous to you. But some 400 people show up every year to try out for just about 75 open spots. 17-year-old Fidelus Idoko is one of the rookies - young people who often come from school to the stadium, and nap when they can.

(“John Parkins!”) Getting here is surprisingly Hollywood. A tryout, then several callbacks. "They have to be very quick. They have to be agile. They have to be in the game." “So you spend two and a half weeks of vacation like this?” “That’s correct.” “Uh huh.”

To learn just how tough it is, I endured ball person boot camp - “Got it.” “Go! Quickly, quickly! You just distracted Federer. What’s wrong with you? Quick!” “Ooh.” “Sprint! I said, sprint! No, sprint! Come on, come on! You haven’t gotten one yet. Ball boy, ball boy.” “Whose idea was this? Oh!” “Get the next one, come on!
