Turning now to other news. Football star Michael Vick
began paying the price today for his role at a dog fighting conspiracy.
After Vick signed a plea agreement, the NFL suspended him indefinitely without pay.
In a letter to Vick, Commissioner Roger Goodell said, quote, ‘your admitted conduct was not only illegal,
but also cruel and reprehensible.’
Vick could get up to five years in prison, although prosecutors agreed to recommend less.
Here’s ABC’s David Curly.

Michael Vick’s denials were lies.
“Bought it for family member.”
Wrong. He bought this property specifically for dog fighting.
And many of the ugliest allegations are true.
In his plea agreement, Vick admits he funded and ran the dog fighting ring, Bad News Kennels, with three friends.

And back in April, Vick admits he was involved in the killing of six to eight dogs
which didn’t perform well in test fights.
The dogs, pit bulls, were killed, quote,
‘by various methods, including hanging and drowning.’
While Vick admits he funded the business and the betting purses on the fights,
prosecutors go out of their way to say, quote,
‘Vick did not gamble by placing side bets on any of the fights.’

“We don’t want this to begin and end with Bad News Kennels.
We want the other 40,000 people in this country that we estimate are doing these exact same things
to be prosecuted as well.”
All that Michael Vick can hope tonight is that he didn’t sign away his career
when he put his autograph on a plea deal instead of a football.
