Dramatic rescues as floodwaters chased thousands from their homes in the upper Midwest and the lower Plains.
And Hurricane Dean bears down on Mexico.
Tens of thousands including many American tourists try to flee the monster storm.
Also tonight, Atlanta Falcon Michael Vick cops a plea to dog fighting charges.
He could get prison time.
And she was known as the queen of mean.

Hello, everyone. We’re beginning tonight with deadly weather.
The flooding here in the United States and that monster hurricane, Hurricane Dean,
it’s heading toward the Gulf Coast of Mexico
packing winds of more than 150 miles an hour.
And it could get even stronger.
We’re on the scene and we’ll have more in a moment.

But first, the flooding in Minnesota and Wisconsin, Oklahoma and Texas
brought on by a weekend of heavy rain.
It’s blamed for at least 20 deaths.
More than 2,000 people were forced out of their homes.
Some plucked from the water in dramatic rescues.
More than 200 homes were destroyed.
We have two reports tonight beginning with Hattie Shrinaphason in Oklahoma.

“What’s all this?” David Rasmussen swam for his life on Sunday.
Today, he and his wife came back home and found a muddy mess.
“I think I’ll be finding a new place to live.”
And he’s not alone.
150 homes completely wiped out.
At least six people dead.
All from Erin, a tropical storm, that somehow kept getting stronger
as it was supposed to weaken.

On Monday, the governor of Oklahoma declared a state of emergency in 24 counties
after flash floods and damaging winds tore through town after town.
Dozens had to be rescued from their rooftops.
Tropical storms usually weaken and die after making landfall.
But as this satellite image shows,
Erin gained a second wind on Sunday
and looked like a landlocked hurricane in the middle of the heartland.
